Supastar Gaby Discusses Rap Journey, Inspirations, and $10K “Kinging” Video on ShowBiz TV
Ghanaian international hip-hop artist and World Entertainment Awards nominee Supastar Gaby appeared on the Sun Up Morning Show hosted by renowned media personality JayKay on ShowBiz TV. The rapper, recently nominated for Best Rap Performance at the upcoming World Entertainment Awards in Beverly Hills, shared insights into his music journey, challenges, and inspirations.
Starting rap at age 15 under the influence of his older brother, who is now in the US Army, Gaby balanced his passion for music with his academic pursuits, as per his parents’ insistence. Despite the challenges of juggling a career as an accountant and his love for rap, Gaby revealed that his dedication to music kept him from giving up.
On the state of rap in Ghana, Gaby highlighted that success depends on targeting the right audience, acknowledging the achievements of Sarkodie and Manifest. When asked to choose between the two, he favored Manifest, attributing it to his smart wordplay and use of English, which he believes gives an edge in the global hip-hop scene.
Gaby also discussed the inspiration behind his hit song Kinging, revealing how a $5,000 incentive from his cousin reignited his drive to return to the studio. The track’s creative vision drew from the regal movements of a Saudi king, paired with a beat by Germany-based producer Insanebeatz.
He emphasized the importance of investment in music, sharing that he spent $10,000 on the Kinging video, flying in a director and visual effects artist from South Africa. Although the project was delayed due to the loss of his father, Gaby eventually completed it after the burial.
Gaby concluded by urging artists to promote their music on global platforms and invited fans to follow him on social media @supastargaby.
